What happens when sexuality is already in the room, but talking about it is no longer enough?

You may already be a therapist, coach, bodyworker, somatic practitioner, sex worker or intimacy professional.

You may already work with men.

But what happens when a man can talk for hours about his fear of intimacy, yet still can't stay present when a woman touches him?

When he understands everything there is to know about erections, but loses his the moment he feels under pressure?

Or when what he needs to learn can only really be discovered in relationship with another human being?

Working With Men, Sex and Intimacy explores the space between talking about sexuality and working with it experientially.

Inside the book

I take you through three distinct scopes of professional practice:

Sex Coaching

How deeply embodied work with sexuality can happen without the practitioner ever touching the client.

Embodied Intimacy Coaching

What changes when another body enters the work and touch becomes relational and two-way.

Sexual Partner Surrogacy

What changes again when the practitioner takes a more explicitly sexual and relational role within the client's learning.

These aren't levels on a ladder towards increasingly sexual work.

Each can be a complete professional practice in its own right.

What changes is the practitioner's involvement, and with it, the skills, boundaries, ethics and responsibilities the work requires.

This book is particularly for you if you work professionally with relationships, bodies, intimacy or sexualitiy and:

  • You want to feel more confident working directly with men and male sexuality
  • you’re curious about bringing more embodied or relational practice into your work
  • you wonder where coaching ends and touch-based work begins
  • you're interested in Sexual Partner Surrogacy but want to understand what the work actually involves
  • you want to understand the ethical and professional considerations when the practitioner's own body enters the work
  • you’re trying to work out where your own scope of practice belongs

This book is written for women interested in working professionally with heterosexual and bisexual men, including therapists, coaches, bodyworkers, sex workers and somatic practitioners.

This isn't a training manual
Reading this book won't qualify you to offer men's sex coaching, intimate touch or sexual partner surrogacy. Instead it takes you inside the work.

Exploere what can happen through specific no-touch coaching techniques, what changes when another body enters the room, and what changes when your own body, boundaries and sexuality become part of the professional relationship.

And throughout it all runs one question:

How do we work with men's sexuality safely, skilfully and without losing ourselves?

Because this work isn't about training women to become better at accomodating male sexuality. It's about remaining fully human, fully at choice and professionally grounded while doing work that can be profoundly transformational for our male clients.

From why women working with men matters, practitioner self awareness, consnet, boundaries, supervision and professional practice through to no-touch sex coaching, embodied intimacy and Sexual Partner Surrogacy.

About the Author

Curious about taking this work further?

Perhaps you've found your way here because something about working more deeply with men's sexuality and intimacy is already calling your attention.

You may be wondering what it would take to work confidently with men around sex and intimacy, how embodied practice might become part of that work, or even what Sexual Partner Surrogacy actually looks like when it is held within a clear, ethical and professional framework.

The Sensara Method is my professional training for women who want to explore exactly that.

Begin with Sex Coaching, with no touch involved, and, if you choose, continue into Embodied Intimacy Coaching and Sexual Partner Surrogacy, developing the skills, boundaries, confidence and professional framework to work safely and skilfully at each stage.

Curious? Come and take a look.

The ideas explored in this book form part of the foundations of The Sensara Method, my professional training in Sex Coaching, Embodied Intimacy Coaching and Sexual Partner Surrogacy.

About Sian Johnson

I’ve spent a decade working with men around sex, intimacy and relationships.

My work has taken me through Sex Coaching, Tantra, Sexological Bodywork, Consent work, Conscious Kink, and psychotherapy training, and into an ongoing exploration of what becomes possible when we bring sexuality, the body and relationship more fully into professional practice.

Working With Men, Sex and Intimacy brings together what I’ve learned from that work and the questions I believe practitioners need to be asking as our involvement with clients becomes more embodied, relational and intimate.
