When a man brings his sexuality into the room, what happens in you?

Perhaps you've worked with men for years. Perhaps you're only beginning to consider it.

You might feel confident talking about relationships, intimacy and sexuality. But what happens when a male client tells you he's attracted to you? When he becomes visibly aroused during an exercise? When a man who has spent his life appearing strong suddenly breaks down in tears?

What happens in your body?

Do you tighten, move closer, become more professional, want to reassure him, rescue him, or quietly wish the moment would pass?

And what about the other side of the experience?

The moments when you feel genuine warmth, curiosity, pleasure or joy in working with a man. When you're moved by his vulnerability, delighted by his courage, or surprised by the connection that becomes possible.

All of this belongs in our professional self-inquiry.

Because working with men isn't only about understanding men.

It's also about understanding who we become in relationship with them.

This is where the inquiry begins.

What Happens in You When You Work With Men? is a short, experiential workbook inviting you to turn your attention towards yourself.

Through guided reflections, embodied awareness and three realistic client scenarios, you'll explore how your body, beliefs, history, professional training and relational patterns might influence the way you meet men in your practice.

There are no right answers. No personality types to identify. No judgement about what you discover.

Just an invitation to become curious about what happens in you, and what greater awareness might make possible.

Who is this workbook for?

This workbook is particularly relevant if you're a therapist, counsellor, coach, bodyworker, somatic practitioner, sex worker or intimacy professional who:

  • Is curious about working more directly with men's sexuality and intimacy.
  • Already works with men and wants to deepen your professional self-awareness
  • Wants to explore how personal experiences and assumptions about men might influence professional relationships.
  • Wants to recognise not only the challenges of this work, but also its potential for connection, pleasure and joy.

You don't need to have all the answers. You do need a willingness to become curious about yourself.

This is a reflective resource and an
invitation into professional self-awareness.

it wont teach you how to manage every challenging situation, replace supervision or qualify you to offer sex coaching, intimate touch or Sexual Partner Surrogacy.

Instead, it asks you to explore something that professional training can sometimes overlook:

Who am I in the room, and how does that influence the work?

Because our professional boundaries, ethical responsibilities and personal responses don't disappear simply because we've learned the theory. They become part of what we need to recognise, understand and work with.

This workbook introduces one of the foundations of The Sensara Method, my  progressive 3, 6 and 12-month professional training in working with men's sexuality, intimacy and relationships.

The training brings together embodied self-awareness, relational skills, consent, ethics, professional boundaries and an understanding of men's sexual and emotional experiences.

Beginning with Sex Coaching, practitioners can choose whether to progress into Embodied Intimacy Coaching and Sexual Partner Surrogacy.

If this workbook raises questions you'd like to explore more deeply, perhaps that's your next beginning.

A little about me

I'm Sian Johnson, a sexologist, men's sex coach, consent educator and embodied intimacy practitioner.

For more than a decade, I've worked with men exploring sexuality, intimacy, relationships, confidence, shame, pleasure and the complexities of being human.

One of the things I've learned is that professional skill isn't simply about knowing what to do.

It's also about developing the capacity to remain present, curious and grounded when something unexpected happens between you and the person you're working with.

That capacity develops through awareness, embodied practice, ethical reflection, experience and support.

This workbook offers a meaningful place to begin.
